Do any of you nerds care about this stuff yet?

It's INSANE how big MOBAs are now.

Example: This is how League of Legends is progressing as a spectator event

I don't play league or mobas because they're fucky but discuss

Industry2014-12-29 02:05 UTC

I've played a few seasons of competitive Team Fortress 2. A couple seasons of 6v6, 1 season of 4v4, and 2 seasons of 9v9. I main scout, but my secondary main is Medic.

DJSketch2014-12-29 02:06 UTC

Fuck MOBA's, I mean I play Heroes of the Storm but like I don't see how they have gotten so big in the competitive world.

they're pretty hard and update all of the time so it's constantly a new metagame. I don't know how this has translated into being a global phenomenon

Industry2014-12-29 02:13 UTC

It's based on how similar MOBA's are to Starcraft, a game that has seen ridiculous exposure. Also, League is really fun. Kind of addicting. Mystik forced me ot play it but I ended up really liking it and I even bought a hero with my IP (points you win from playing games).

JuИИeZ2014-12-29 02:45 UTC

I play dota 2 and TI4 was huge but a fucking garbage chinaman grand final nearly ruined the entire scene. They brought out a whole huge patch desgined to block shit games like those ones. DreamHack was pretty good with EG winning and clown9 coming 2nd as usual and The Summit 2 had fantastic games even if it was poorly fucking run.

JuИИeZ2014-12-29 02:53 UTC

Also StarLadder X was awesome and StarLadder XI is in qualifiers now. DAC is coming up but it's a chin tournament.

Zantarax2014-12-29 03:17 UTC

I missed a lot of TI4 but watched a bit of starladder and other insignificant events, TI3 i caught a bit of mainly towards the end. It's pretty awesome, I couldn't get over the fact there were announcers and like 20000 people viewing online and massive events irl. Its crazy but cool. Also ti4 was the first esports even to be aired on tv I do believe

Yeah leagues pretty much Dota2 for kids. DotA has a "steep learning curve" but it's definitely worth it. The best part of the game is that you keep learning as you go, I have 700 odd hours and I'm still learning all the time. Then you watch the professionals play and realise you are absolute garbage haha. You have to pay to unlock the full league game as well as far as I'm aware, where as dota is full content from the start.

dota is so much better than lol its incomparable, i always just assumed lol lured in kids but you guys have really let me down here

BlacKOuT2014-12-29 14:36 UTC

the great western roster shuffle: part 1 is about to happen so keep your eyes on the dota 2 subreddit if you're interested in the roster changes.

no, running around building shit is all well and good when your 6 years old and enjoying your new lego set, but why the fuck would you play a game with the only goal being to build some shit then be like "hmm..ok thats that done now what" literally every minecraft player i know is either aged between 8-15 or a complete social retard

i can get people not liking dota, thats not my beef. people liking minecraft is

also im pretty sure nearly every gamer cares about graphics, otherwise we wouldnt have evolved past the playstation 1.

Industry2014-12-29 20:05 UTC

I like tf2 over cs:s and cs:go because it is class based. Each class has a different counter. In cs:s one guy with a deagle can ace a team, but if Im the last one alive on my team fortress team as scout and ace the other team that is incredibly more impressive imho. Counter-strike is just too one dimensional. The meta is the same it has always been. The community is toxic too.

When minecraft originally came out it was a cool concept, there were only 9 blocks of which you had unlimited supply and the entire point of the game was to build massive crazy shit. Servers used to be like cities packed with insanely creative designs and all the pixel art shit etc. It's changed a lot and even that idea now would be gay because its already been done. When the idea was fresh it was cool though. Plus yeah I think I was like 14/15 at the time haha.

There's limited gameplay in DOTA, you can only play the maps and heroes a set amount of times, before it gets boring and you're basically just repeating everything you've already done. Minecraft has unlimited possibilities, you can decide to build what ever you want, you can even build computers and entire games inside this game. I bet you someone made a copy of DOTA in Minecraft. When you get bored of the main game after a while, you can begin modding and it opens up a whole new game. The possibilities is unlimited and you can pretty much do what ever you want.

I'm not hating on DOTA here or saying Minecraft is better, I just find your limited view of both games weird and want to elaborate on how Minecraft is a sandbox where anything is possible.

Thats a fucking lie. There's one map in dota. Don't comment on a game you haven't even played. Like he said theres over 100 heros, being lenient I'd say you'll play a character at least 5 times before you can even begin understanding it in any real way, then you've got your skill and item builds, another couple hundred variables. Then you've got the opposing team, you have to understand all those heros to play against them and depending on your hero/roll in the current game play against/avoid/counter the enemy. Which moves on to rolls which consist of but aren't limited to one per hero or one at a time carry/semi carry/ support/ jungler/ ganker/ roam. So a few hundred more variables open up. Every game you start off at level zero with whatever hero you chose so its based on skill and not grindtime or p2p or swinging a fucking pickaxe like on minecraft. I get bored of games very easily, I have 795 hours of dota, which would be more if I didn't have a pc for a good 6-8 months. You suck jewnoze

TLDR: games of dota are like snowflakes.
